Art Club NYC Trip
Hi everyone,
I'm sure you've seen the fliers, but if not... The spring Art Club trip to NYC is this Friday, March 4th. The Art Club is going to the Armory Show, one of the largest and most important art fairs held annually. Hundreds of galleries from around the world bring selections of work from featured artists to the Armory Show. It is a good idea for any of you who are aspiring to be artists to get a sense of what the art world looks like and this is a great oppoprtunity to build part of that picture.
Round trip transportation will be included. Sign up outside the Art Department Secretary's office (Southampton Rm 116) and meet at the Ronkonkoma train station at 8:45 AM.

Avant Garde and Kitsch, by Clement Greenberg, 1939
This will be upcoming assigned reading for my classes. It will be integrated into the mid term assignment. Get a jump, read it now. It's a seminal piece of modernist theory and is scintillating!

Marc Newson 1/5
We're going to be watching some of this in 3D Design next week. If you wanted to check it out early, it would serve as great inspiration for your weekend design assignment. In case you were absent or somehow missed it... Design a better bar of soap. Study how it fits in your hand and carve the form so that it is more well designed to not slip out of your hands while it's wet and slippery in the shower. Bring in 3 carved soap bar designs for class on Monday. Have fun!

Snow Day
Hi folks. The roads in Brooklyn are atrocious and the snow keeps on coming. I am anticipating that school will close for afternoon classes and wondering why there is not already an announcement for day classes. Regardless of what announcements the school makes, my afternoon 3D Design class is canceled for today. See you Monday with supplies and objects for your first assignment!
