This clip contains a couple of really great and short arguments for how limits play a useful role in creative processes and for abstraction in art...
It's really cool that when he was approached with the question of what can you do with just one fold in a piece of paper, he said what would usually come to everybody’s minds...you can't. You gotta add to that fold to construct something. Then he thought about and experimented and he found that there are many different forms and shapes possible to make with just one fold. I like how he relates it to the mindset of people and the way they think. It shows people are close-minded. He says how an elephant origami and anything that is created is mostly looked upon and judged in relation to other things, based on details or what it looks like in reality; but its more then that. This clip shows how you can create something very beautiful with such a limited amount of work that is far from reality.
LOL elanaaaa! I thought he was just adorable. There is so much you can do without folding, there is twisting, crumpling,pinching, flattening, poking (can you poke? is poking allowed?), rolling, forming over objects to get it to take the objects shape, hmmmm... I suppose there is quite a bit that actually can be done to the paper without the folding dedication of pure blooded Origamians.
